Work from home. For more than a year now homes have undergone a transformation. The addition of working spaces for all members of the family may have been overwhelming. While we all wished the setup would be temporary, the surprising extent of the pandemic may be calling for redecorating to accommodate a permanent home office space. Spacious homes can easily integrate it into its layout, but what about smaller homes?

“Integrating a home office in a small space can be challenging. Look around your home and you’ll be surprised at what you can create in the most unexpected areas,” said Honeylet Lim, manager of Merlgen Euro Designs, Inc.

“In these small spaces, Merlgen can custom build modular cabinets to fit it. The plan is to maximize the use of the area, and with a few design tweaks, the spaces above and below the working desk will be utilized with the addition of shelves and cabinets.”

Lim shares that during the pandemic when work was moved to residences for safety, the home office design and installation orders was 30% of the total contacts of the company.

1. Underused spaces? Put it to work!

A home office need not use up an entire room. Around your house, there will be an under utilized space by the window in the living room, or an alcove, the opposite end of the dining table, the corner of a bedroom, along the hallway, the stair landing, or the end of a kitchen counter. With a rug, mark it as a “new zone,” add a small bureau or build into it a slim desk with drawers and shelves. Make sure to use the space under the table as well.

2. Resuscitate “dead” spaces.

A hideaway office will quickly revert space to the relaxing aura of home when office doors are not shut.

That awkward corner or the area under the stairs are usually the dumping area, if not unused. These are the “dead” spaces. Why not clear it up and fit it with a desk, set up shelves, put a lamp, take a comfy chair and voila! An instant home office.

3. Incorporate your office into your display units.

Make the display shelves or wall cabinets multifunctional. Incorporate a working desk into the modular shelving that holds books and mementos and cabinets where favorite possessions are stored. To make the look less of an office, keep your office supplies in decorative boxes or stash them in the lower cabinets.

Operating the newest organization are two of the second generation businessmen— Clark Yap, who sits as the vice-president of CrisRon Holiday Builders, Inc., and Wesley Bangayan, taking charge as Legacy Leisure Residences’ vice-president for marketing.

Way before they earned their business management degrees abroad, Clark Yap and Wesley Bangayan started their training in the most unconventional way. Safety is our utmost concern at this point in time now that there is this Covid-19 pandemic.

But mothers, I tell you, will always see to it that with or without Covid the safety of their family, the children most especially is most important.

My experience in public places when I was with my children before was to check the comfort rooms, elevators, and even the fire exit and tell them, for instance, what to do while inside the mall.

My children who are all grown up and working in Makati set  their own protocols inside the house, going to work and even in public places like malls with this pandemic. Thank God for giving us independent children and  heeding our instructions and following rules set by government and their respective offices.

 As shopping remains a necessity during these days, many shoppers seek out safe spaces as they return to malls and stores. Staying safe by following health protocols becomes a top priority during essential shopping and errand runs.

One must be also always be quick-witted in maintaining safe distances, keeping a sanitizer hand, and refraining from having long chit-chats without a face mask on.

In this story, on-the-go moms Tash Costan and Ara Casas-Tumuran share tips and tricks that answer common questions about how to shop safely and where to get the best deals in SM Lanang Premier and SM City Davao.

A regular client of SM Store’s Call to Deliver since May, Ara Casas-Tumuran shares that it is a convenient way to shop when a trip to the mall doesn’t fit her busy mom schedule. She says that it has been her go-to delivery service especially for her baby’s needs.

“This quarantine period, I choose to stay as much as possible in the house with my baby. Thankfully, there are now services where I can directly call and order for essentials.
