Indonesian cuisine

I had the chance to taste authentic Indonesian cuisine everytime we were invited in events by the Consulate General here.
While in Makati City, we also dined with my son, Joe3,  at the Garuda Indonesian Restaurant in Salcedo St., Legaspi Village.

The flavor of each cuisine is rich with ingredients and spices. The dishes are hot, spicy, flavorful and I like all of those I tasted.
At the recent cooking demo at the House of Indonesia here, the chefs demonstrated how to cook the Nasi Uduk. It is an Indonesian Betawi style steamed rice cooked in coconut milk dish.
It was explained that Nasi Uduk means “mixed rice” as the preparation of the dish requires more ingredients other than the coconut milk  as it includes clove, lemongrass, cinnamon, and pandan leaf.

It can be served with side dishes and the most common type of Sambal that usually comes with Nasi Uduk is sambal kacang (sambal peanut) but it is optional as a condiment.
Another is with egg, tempeh, sambal, bihun goreng, and krupuk. It could also come with ayam suwir (shredded chicken) slices of cucumber,  shredded omelette, and tempe orek (tempeh stir fried with soy sauce.
The other one could be served with empal fried beef, samur jengkol, and krechek (beef rind in spicy coconut milk).
I also like Rendang and this dish is rich in spices. The meat could be chicken or it could be beef and uses coconut milk, a paste of mixed ground spices, plus ginger, galangal, turmeric leaves, lemongrass, garlic, shallots, chillis and others which is called pemasak in Minangkabau.
The Consulate wants the Indonesian dishes be marketed in Davao that’s why they regularly hold food and cooking demo so that Dabawenyos and Mindanaoans can taste the food be familiarized with their dishes.
Here’s my story
Indonesian cuisine to

penetrate Davao market

In its bid to penetrate the Davao and Mindanao market, the Indonesian Consulate of Davao hosted a cooking demo to introduce its cuisine to Dabawenyos held on Tuesday at the House of Indonesia, this city.

The event is aimed to introduce and promote further the Indonesian cuisine to Filipinos and enter the market especially in Mindanao.

Consul General Dicky Fabrian of the Republic of Indonesia in Davao City

said they want their food and beverage be more recognized and
sellable in restaurants, store, hotels, malls, and food court all over Mindanao.

at the House of Indonesia.
“Through this event we can introduce and promote further the Indonesian

cuisine to Filipinos and enter the market especially here and in the island of Mindanao,” he said.

He said Davao will not only have Korean, Japanese, Chinese and Indian dishes but also Indonesian.

He said this will also pave the way to kow more about us and our culture.

Meanwhile, guests during the cooking lesson discovered the spiced flavor of Indonesian popular cuisine.

The lesson offered fascinating introduction to the exotic ingredients and unique culinary heritage of Indonesia. It provided valuable insights  into the various techniques, traditional and modern food preparation and the cooking style used in homes

across the Indonesian Archipelago.
