Gensan MSU eyed as first Philippine OpenHub

Posted by: prixbanzon on: December 13, 2007

The Mindanao State University in General Santos City was designated as the first Philippine OpenHub after an agreement was inked between the DabaweGNU and the United Nations Development Program IOSN ASEAN + 3, designating the school as the site.

The two parties agreed to jointly develop an electronic health record (HER) application.

The agreement was signed by Holden Hao, DabaweGNU president and Dr. Alvin Marcelo, manager UNPD IOSN ASEAN + 3.

The electronic health record is a database application that can store patients’ personal data, laboratory results, medical history and other details.

Holden said it is expected to ease the keeping of patient records and reportorial requirements of medical practitioners and students both in the Philippines and the ASEAN Region.

Nathaniel Jayme, a DabaweGNU trustee was chosen as lead developer of the project to be assisted by other DabaweGNU members.

Holden said the software will be developed using Jayme’s open source application framework called Cruxade, a cross platform framework utilizing XML and the Mozilla Programing Framework.

The resulting application which uses the XML User Interface Language (XUL) can run as plug in of any Mozilla-based browsers such as Firefox or run as standalone application through XUL runner.

Both the application framework, Cruxade, and the electronic health record software will be released under the GNU General Public License Version 3 (GPL v#) and will be available for download from its project website at http://trac.aftervetech.com/ffehr/.
