TransCo to conduct forum on Electromagnetic Field

Davao City, Phils (9 November) — A forum on Electromagnetic Field (EMF) from power lines will be conducted in Davao City on November 29 for the region’s stakeholders.

National Transmission Corporation (TransCo) corporate communication officer Milfrance Capulong said the forum aims to provide clear understanding of the EMF.

The TransCo initiated EMF forum aims to provide government institutions/agencies, academe, distribution utilities, non-government organizations and professional organizations on relevant facts as part of the Corporation’s information, education and communication program.

Resource persons are experts coming from the health sector and the National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST). Among the invited speakers are Dr. Quintin L. Kintanar, chairman of the health services division of NAST, and Agnette P. Peralta, Director of the Bureau of Health Devices and Technology of the Department of Health.

The resource persons will speak on extremely-low-frequency (EMF) from power lines and electric equipment and guidelines on exposure from EMF.

Other invited resources speakers who will respond to questions during the forum are Dr. Filemon A. Uriarte Jr., Dr. Apolinario D. Nazarea and Dr. Emil Q. Javier, academician-scientists from NAST.

The forum is part of TransCo’s advocacy to generate public understanding related to their program on safety and protection to consumers. A similar forum will also be conducted in Cebu City this November.
